Thank you so much to Asheville wedding florist, Beth from Studio Flora Diva, for sending over some great tips and advice when selecting your flowers for your wedding. It can be so overwhelming as you look through bridal magazines, and scroll the million wedding blogs that are out there…so here are some tips from a pro that can make it a little easier for you!
Thanks Beth!!!
When you spot a picture of flowers or a floral design style you like, tear it out, put it in a folder, and bring the folder with you to your consultation.
Choose your color palette and your bridesmaid dress color before you meet with your florist. This will help with flower choices.
Some flower varieties are seasonal: tulips, peonies, dahlias, and zinnias, to name a few. If peonies are your favorite flower, but your wedding is in August, you will either have to choose another flower, or change your wedding date to late April- May!
On average, the cost for wedding flowers is 10-15% of your budget for the entire wedding. So, if you have budgeted $50 k total, you’ll be spending approximately $5000.00 – $7500.00 on flowers.
Be realistic about your budget. Purchasing 10 bridesmaid bouquets and 20 centerpieces will be impossible on a $1500.00 budget. Also, it may be more cost effective to have one large arrangement as a focal point, instead of 10 small ones that get lost.
Wedding floral is very labor intensive. Prices reflect labor cost as well as cost of flowers and materials.
Be willing to let your own style shine! While pictures of other weddings are great for inspiration, ask your florist to change the design a bit so your wedding flowers become uniquely you!
Have fun! ~ Beth Hohensee, AIFD
