Studio Spotlight: Sweet Sensations

You can probably Google “Sweet Sensations” or “Sharon Alexander” and see pages upon pages of people saying the same thing: incredibly talented, networking extraordinaire, and the bubbliest, friendliest person ever. And that’s because it’s true: Sharon’s sugar work is more than just cake. It’s art by the sweetest Cake Lady around! Of course I had to ask her some questions about how this one-time-wannabe-librarian and SoCal native went from travel agent to designing cakes in Atlanta and what she loves about the wedding business.

Q: Why did you join StudioWed?

Sharon: Michelle asked and I thought it was a good idea…I was right! ;p

Q: What’s the best advice a bride can get for the day of her wedding?

Sharon: Relax and enjoy, that can only happen if you have a professional planner!

Q: What business accomplishment are you most proud of?

Sharon: Starting the business completely on my own with my entire family on the other coast.

Q: Who is your dream client, and why?

Sharon: One who understands our artwork and can trust us to see their style and vision and create a one of a kind cake for them. So many people have to see a picture…it hasn’t been created yet, so there aren’t any photos…trust us!

Q: Do you have any pets?

Sharon: Cat-Maggie. She’s a long haired Calico…gorgeous and the best pet a person could have!! I adopted
her about eleven years ago and she was about ten at the time. She keeps plugging along, thankfully
because she really is the love of my life!

Q: Where did you grow up? How did you end up in Atlanta?

Sharon: So Cal!! Fourth generation Californian…first to ever leave the state. I was having a bad week there
and a friend who had moved back here convinced me to come check it out and help them with their
restaurants. Mom and my grandmother still haven’t forgiven him.

When I asked about her favorite client story, Sharon relayed the time an expectant mom had a custom baby shower cake made, and when she came to pick it up, all of the decorators in the back couldn’t hear the reaction. All of the decorators had a hand in this particular cake design. They were all nervous that their hard work hadn’t paid off, until Sharon came in the back to tell them the client was speechless and had tears running down her face! Apparently that client always makes sure to give audible reactions now to put the decorators at ease! I love it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sharon, for being the kind and wonderful person you are! You deserve all of the success (and constant Twitter praise!) you receive!

StudioWed Atlanta Needs a New Manager!

I have loved every second I’ve spent working at StudioWed Atlanta, from starting as an intern last August to becoming the Studio Manager at the beginning of this year and everything since then and in between! Despite that, I’m very excited to announce that I will soon be stepping down to become to the studio’s Social Media Marketing Manager, and that means that we’re currently looking for a new Studio Manager!

If you know someone who is qualified and may be interested, feel free to pass this along to them. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Update:

Thank you to everyone who applied! The position has been filled!

Daily Dress: Taylor Dresses

One of the last times I posted a cocktail dress for party purposes, I waxed poetic about my love of dresses with pockets. So I am extra pleased to show you this vixen red Taylor Dresses Bengaline Party Dress. The awesome pockets are supported by an exposed black back zipper and woven chiffon pleats and fold trims at the neckline. This dress would be great for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and so much more.

I am dying over this exposed zipper.

Honeymoon Friday: Hôtel de Glace

LT Travel Connection wanted to speak to the adventurous with today’s Honeymoon Friday post, and they hit the nail on the head. How does staying in a hotel made entirely of ice and snow sound? One where it’s helpful to have another, albeit more traditional, hotel suite for your luggage and showers?

That’s exactly the experience you get with Québec’s Hôtel de Glace. The hotel is redesigned every year and debuts in the winter. It’s open from the first week of January until the last week of March (for 2011: January 7-March 27) every year.

And here’s a great deal: for $599/person, you get several perks: a themed suite at the Hôtel de Glace, a suite with a fireplace at the nearby Four Points by Sheraton Québec for luggage storage and showers, complimentary welcome drinks, a romantic dinner, after dinner chocolates, Nordic area under-the-stars hot tubs and saunas, breakfast, a welcome gift, personal valet service, and all gratuities. I’m almost out of breath just typing it all. And now, of course, on to the photos!

This is the super cool Ice Bar at the hotel. The drinks are served in glasses made out of – what else? – ice.

One of the themed bedrooms. The beds have ice bases but are then covered with a mattress, box springs, sheets, and an Arctic-proof sleeping bag.

Okay, I’m sold! Take a tour of the hotel and get a chance to slide down the ice slide!

I couldn’t resist showing you a couple of wedding portraits (via the Femtalks blog) from the hotel. How cool would a destination wedding be at this place? They even have an ice chapel (no kidding)!

I’m in total love with her hand muffs!

See the hotel’s FAQ for lots of helpful info, and thanks to LT Travel Connection for thinking outside of the box on today’s adventurous location!
