Meet Our Wish Upon a Wedding Couple: Deven + Cliff

Last week, you got a sneak peek of what one of our vendors has planned for the November 4 wedding of Atlanta’s first ever Wish Upon a Wedding couple, but you haven’t gotten to meet the actual couple yet! Well, the wait is over, and I’m happy to introduce you to StudioWed’s newest clients: Deven + Cliff.

The couple met in 2007 when Cliff spotted Deven working at his bank. They began talking, using Cliff’s daughter, Jasmine, as the conversation starter. The two realized they had a lot in common, exchanged numbers, and the rest is history.

They have persevered through Cliff’s renal failure and three-times-per-week dialysis sessions at Emory University Hospital. “Deven is my knight in shining armor. She is the woman who has stuck by my side through it all,” Cliff said of his fiance.

This couple is so much fun. When I met Deven for the first time, I could see right away that she has one of the bubbliest personalities ever. And Cliff was a typical groom, asking how long her makeup trial was going to take! But he also has a softer side and said that he “wants to live a healthy, normal life and give my soon-to-be wife and daughter what they deserve.”

Don’t you just love Deven’s smile? We can’t wait for their wedding day! Thanks to these studio vendors for getting involved with making their wedding day at the W Buckhead the best: Lemiga Events, Luxe Expressions, I Do Linens, Lethal Rhythms, Janet Howard Studio (who shared these beautiful engagement session photos with me!), Sweet Sensations, Event Drapery, Peachy Treats, Dreamy Gelato, The Moore Agency, Lucky + Lovely for Stella & Dot, and Event Rentals Unlimited.

Something Old Something New Inspiration Photo

This photo says it all: vintage-inspired venue and dress, modern hair and bouquet, and make it all work together beautifully. We’re combining the old and the new to inspire you for your big day.

This was my favorite picture from the Project Duo Photography shoot at the Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation for the Something Old Something New event.

See what else we have in store at the event, like the chef’s five page over-the-top menu, the Oscars-style gifting suite (check out some of the sponsors on the event website), the campfire concert & s’mores, the morning tea, the style suite with gowns from Anne Barge & Etain, and so much more. I can’t wait to share more of the details with you, but I hope you’ll get to see them in person!

Daily Dress: Thread

I just discovered Thread, one of the coolest bridesmaid dress designers I’ve come across lately (just check out their swiss dot collection, swoon!). They’ve been around since 1999 AND they’re fabulous, so I’m not sure how I haven’t heard of them! But I am in love with their chic frocks and design aesthetic that was born out of a need for a bridesmaid dress for a sister’s wedding. A dress with a print is a huge trend for Spring, and any bridesmaid would look to die for in the Izzy floor length dress.

I love its high waist, color combination (its available in several more), its neckline, and the fact that it can easily be worn again after the wedding. It’s perfection!

Studio Spotlight: chaos couture bridal

It’s always exciting when one of our own gets engaged or ties the knot. On 10/10/10, Maliha Haider (now Maliha Haider-Bardill, have to get used to that!), the mastermind behind chaos couture bridal, did just that! I figured this was the perfect time to find out a little more behind the studio’s headpiece, veil, and bouquet alternative designer.

Q: Why did you join the studio?

Maliha: I was inspired by the caliber of vendors I met while planning my own wedding. I met and booked my photographers (Project Duo!) before even hearing of StudioWed. They introduced me to some of the most talented, creative people I’ve ever met! It is truly an honor to be part of this amazing team. :)

Q: How did you get started making veils and headpieces?

Maliha: I started playing with beads and stones at 12 years old. I made jewelry – chokers were all the rage back then – and used my hobby to accessorize my wardrobe on a very tight allowance! I continued to make jewelry, with my designs and materials becoming increasingly more sophisticated. My hobby became a business just two short years ago and started in the wedding industry at the beginning of this year as I was planning my wedding.

Q: What business accomplishment are you most proud of?

Maliha: A month before my entry into the wedding industry with the official launch of chaos couture, my headpieces were featured in the 2010 NotWedding. It was an elaborate, fantastic debut!

Q: What is your favorite quote?

Maliha: I have a file about 20 pages long of ‘favorite quotes,’ but the one that inspired the name of my business and sums up my life beautifully is “we all live in a rainbow of chaos” by Paul Cézanne.

Q: Did you have another career before getting into the wedding industry?

Maliha: I currently have another career in the mental health field. I am a behavior analyst at a local hospital providing therapy to developmentally delayed adults.

Q: How would you spend your perfect Saturday?

Maliha: If we’re talking true fantasy here, my ideal Saturday would be spent somewhere outside of the country – a place I’ve never been, with great public transportation, and where I don’t yet know the language. I would wake up to the sound of the ocean, where I would spend the morning. After laying out and playing in the ocean, it would be time to go exploring. I’d hop on a train to the city and find a museum, preferably natural history, but I’m flexible. I’d seek out hidden treasures in small cafes and boutiques. I’d finish with an amazing local dinner and head back to read.

You have to check out the chaos couture bridal Etsy store (the craft mecca of the world!) to see more of her vintage-inspired designs, but she can also custom design the headpiece or veil you’ve been dreaming of! Thanks, Maliha, for taking the time to chat and congrats on your marriage! Can’t wait to see the photos and share them here!
