Winter Wedding Inspiration

Britt Chudleigh - Photographer www.chudleighweddings.com www.brittchudleigh.com

Although they live in New York City, Utah has always had special meaning for the couple. Andrew Kennedy (34 and an entrepreneur) grew up skiing in Park City, Utah, which is also where he proposed to Kristin Koch (31 and a writer and editor) while skiing on Christmas Eve. “To be honest, I had always envisioned myself having a beach or vineyard wedding, where snowstorms aren’t an issue,” Kristin says of the mountainous location and fireside setting. “But we really wanted ours to be unique and unlike every other wedding we’d been to.” Although they originally wanted to get married in Park City, ski season made it hard to find an available venue. They felt strongly that if they were going to host a destination wedding, it should be affordable for their guests. “We went to Sundance [Mountain Resort] and immediately fell in love,” Kristin says. “It was rustic and gorgeous, and we could basically take it over for three days.” As a former editor for The Knot, Kristin felt pressure to have everything perfect. Luckily, she had an entire weekend of events to bring her concepts to life. “I had something very specific in mind that was hard to vocalize, so my floral designer, planner and venue event manager were pivotal in helping me focus,” Kristin says. “I can’t tell you how many ideas I had—my Pinterest was out of control!”

Good Luck tips for your Wedding Day!

We love these tips for good luck on your special day!

You’re already lucky in love, but are you destined to have good wedding day luck? Well, it’s time to find out! We’re not big believers in superstitions by any means, and we know you’ll be blessed on your big day regardless of whether or not you do these things. Just for fun though, we decided to dig up four ways you can theoretically “increase” your wedding day luck.

1. Set off fireworks after the ceremony
According to many wedding planners, lighting fireworks after your ceremony is over is supposed to ward off evil spirits. It’s actually common practice at Chinese weddings, where they believe the loud noise of the firecrackers will scare the spirits away. While a full-on firework show may be a tough one to swing depending on your budget and where you live, it would definitely make for the most epic cocktail hour ever, that is, if it’s dark enough out yet.

2. Wear a veil
Speaking of evil spirits, another tried and true way to keep those wicked suckers away on your wedding day is to rock your veil on your walk down the aisle, says Corn. This superstition dates all the way back to the Ancient Romans. Back then brides wore flame-colored veils that completely covered their face as a way to protect themselves from the spirits. Hmm, wonder if it works on crazy family members too?

3. Add some lavender to your bouquet
Not only does it smell great, but Corn tell us that adding a little lavender, as a symbol of happiness, to your wedding bouquet will bring good fortune to your union. Brides, you can thank the luck of the Irish for this tradition.

4. Put a silver sixpence in your shoe
We’re all familiar with the good luck charms, “something old, something borrowed, something blue”. But did you know that after that the saying goes, “And a silver sixpence in her shoe”? Stick one in your left heel or flat on your big day, and you’ll be blessed beyond measure (or so we’d like to think!). For extra luck and prosperity, sprinkle a dash of salt in your right shoe!

Step-By-Step…How to Change Your Name

Changing your last name could mean feel like all of the pieces of your marriage are finally in place. Officially changing your name for your marriage is a very big deal, but don’t worry, it’s not that hard to do!

We are going to take you step-by-step on how to change your name in the state of Tennessee! Whether you choose to take your spouse’s last name or choose to combine last names you will know all you need to know by the end of this blog!

Step 1: You will need to obtain a “petition to change name” form from your county clerk’s office. While you are there you will also need to pick up of your marriage certificate.

Step 2: You will not only need to fill out the “petition to change name” form, but also the Social Security form SS-5. This will update all of your social security information. To be approved, you will need several original documents, besides your marriage certificate that will prove your age, identity, and U.S. citizenship.

Step 3: Bring the “Petition to change name” form to your county clerk (there will be a filling fee, varies by county) and SS-5 form to the social security office.

*Quick Tip- The SS office is usually packed with people, so be sure to get there before the office opens and be prepared to be there for a while. To shorten your wait, make sure your form is already completed (you can find the forms online!!).

Step 4: Go to your DMV and apply for a new drivers license. You will need to show your court issued name change decree.

Step 5: Change name on all important accounts (bank, registry, etc.)

There you have it! Your name is now officially changed! The name change process varies from state to state, so if your not a TN resident, be sure to see what your state requires!
