Inspiration: Ampersand

Despite what you might think, ampersands (&) have a lot of symbolic meaning in the realm of weddings. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing characters (who doesn’t love a cute little squiggly?), they have unifying power.  As the shorthand symbol for the word “and,” they bring together Bride & Groom, Husband & Wife, You & Me, and make them all a collective unit.  It makes sense that one might incorporate such a symbol into their civil union from two individuals to one married couple.

From top left, clockwise:  flag invites, fold invites, bridesmaids’ gifts, cufflinks (groomsmen gifts), hidden ampersand, chair tie, background, kissing.

Photo of the Week

Taken at the Photo Booth at The Bride Room 10th anniversary party by Kristyn Hogan. Love that statement necklace, the feathery frock, the laughter, and the ballerina bun. A lovely celebratory moment between Charlotte and that Black Swan-reminiscent model. Look at Kristyn’s blog for more pictures from the event!

Daddy/Daughter Dances

One of my favorite wedding moments is that special time when a bride gets to dance with her father.  It’s usually immediately after the “first dance” a married couple shares (which can be an extremely emotional event in and of itself!).  I know I have envisioned my own twirl around the dance floor with my father ever since I started thinking about what my wedding will be like… I know exactly what song it will be (sorry, it’s a secret! But really special to both of us!), and I know I’ll be crying the whole time.  It’s hard for me to get through a client’s daddy-daughter dance without crying, so you can only imagine!

Here are some popular Father-Daughter dance songs:

In My Daughter’s Eyes – Martina McBride

Greatest Love of All – Whitney Houston

I Loved Her First – Heartland

Stealing Cinderella – Chuck Wicks

Landslide – Fleetwood Mac

My Father’s Eyes – Amy Grant

My Girl – The Temptations

The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra

Unforgettable – Nat King Cole

Isn’t She Lovely – Stevie Wonder

There are so many good options! And yes, just thinking about them is reducing me to tears… haha. Did I leave yours out?  Leave a comment and let me know!

Inspiration: Monograms

One sweet Southern custom is to monogram… everything! From towels to tote bags to polos and stationery, those three (or two, or one!) letters make everything look so much classier and personalized. Weddings are the ultimate place to custom-design and add personal touches; think of the boundless opportunity to monogram!!!

From top left, clockwise:  cookie, grooms’ cake, bridesmaid gift, wedding cake, J cookie, initial cake options, linens, pin, ribboned monogram, invitation, pretty A, cupcake liner, framed K, soap favors, initialed wreath, heart letters, cupcake liner L, K cakelette, paper, seal.
