So, the royal wedding was last week, but don’t tell me you thought you’d escape from it that soon! We still have a few posts left in our Royal Series. Read and enjoy!
I definitely woke up to a 4:45am alarm clock last Friday morning to sit down with some girlfriends and watch history in the making. We didn’t get to have the scones-and-mimosas-and-enormous-hats affair we’d originally planned (although one brave soul did end up wearing a massive blue Derby hat through the whole thing!), but we did cuddle up in our comforters and oooh and ahhh at the wonderment. Here are some of my favorite moments:
1. PIPPA. Oh my goodness gracious. This girl is gorgeous, and her dress makes me die from glee. OBSESSED. So in love with this dress. I would be more willing to wear Pippa’s bridesmaid frock than Kate’s actual wedding gown (more on that later). I love everything about it. The satin, the buttons down the back, the simple lines and elegant silhouette. You know she has to have one rock solid body to pull this off as incredibly as she did, and for that I admire her like crazy. And her little posse of preciously-clad little kids? SO PRECIOUS.
2. THE DRESS. Or shall I just say Princess Catherine herself? Kate rocked the lace and epic gown without being gaudy or over-the-top. I could never pull off a 9-foot train (I trip if just a couple of inches of my dresses fall below my heels!) but she did it perfectly. In all likelihood I’ll opt for a more Pippa-esque wedding gown (or at least REALLY REALLY want to) but I know Kate’s dress will be inspiring brides for years to come! And I want to see what that dress looks like bustled!!!
3. The Wedding Itself. So epic. So lovely. The sweet words exchanged, the vows spoken in British accents (forgive me for my cultural ignorance, but it didn’t actually register in my mind that Kate would not be speaking like an American when she gave her vows until the night before the wedding!), the prince garb. Loved it all.
4. Her choice of a tiara rather than flowers! After all the rumors speculating about how she’d do her hair, I was really expecting her to come out with some epic rose crown or something, but I was pleasantly surprised to see she opted for this perfect tiara. Such a lovely princess!
5. Her reception dress! Same designer, different look. I’m not a fan of the fuzzy bolero cardigan, but the dress is pretty enough. I might have liked if she’d bared her arms for the party. Must one be modest for EVERYTHING?
And now, my very-favorite part of the day…
6. This hat!!! There were DEFINITELY some show-stopping party guest hats, but this trumps all. Miriam Gonzalez, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, stunned me with this gorgeous coral floral chapeau. I want one!!!!
