Unless you had some traumatic boating experience or watched too much JAWS in your lifetime, you can probably agree that there’s just something about being around water that has a mystifying effect on one’s soul. Water calms me, it rejuvenates my spirit, and makes me feel at home.  I didn’t grow up around a beach or lake, but maybe those one-week vacations once a year to Jacksonville, FL throughout my childhood instilled in me a love unlike any other.

Now, I’d never actually been to a legitimate LAKE before until a couple of weeks ago, when a friend invited me and several other of my sorority sisters to her parent’s house on Lake Victoria to stay and rent a pontoon boat. I love water and the ocean and everything, but lakes scare me with their deep water I can’t see through.  Somehow I managed to overcome my apprehensions and dived in (ok, maybe I was pushed…) and actually had a lovely time! (Going so far as to tube in it and jump off a rope swing into the abyss, even!)

All this is to say, I think weddings by water (be them lake, ocean, pond, creek, sprinklers [ok maybe not], what have you…) are lovely, and with Memorial Day happening this week, I know a lot of people are spending their holiday in boats and on beaches across the country.

Inspiringly,
